The regeneration of Elephant and Castle is well under way and at this stage of the development process two key types of issues are effecting local and neighbouring communities:
The regeneration at Elephant and Castle is a long-term and wide-reaching programme and the new housing developments are only a part of this. Much more is happening and will happen in the area. If you want to find out more you can visit the official Elephant and Castle Regeneration website.
15
sites in the Elephant and Castle area have
been identified in the Southwark Plan as locations for
new homes.
The council will develop the land on all 15 sites with a combination of affordable and private sale housing. 35% of each development will have to be affordable (of which 50% for social rented housing and 50% for intermediated or shared-ownership housing).
Southwark Council will not build any of these development directly and housing associations have been selected that will build and manage the new properties.
The affordable units will be offered to tenants of the Heygate Estate (which is being demolished as part of the plans) and the sale will be offered for on the housing market.
The Willowbrook Centre is currently advising on a number of planning cases and is able to continue to provide support to residents and groups which are feeling affected by the regeneration and redevelopment of Elephant and Castle.
